Jeanne-Nicole Bernice Coutros was sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing Rodney Rex Rheiner, a longtime Converse police officer and assistant chief who was just three years into retirement.

Coutros killed Rodney Rheiner, a retired Converse Police Department assistant chief, while driving drunk and causing a head on collision in 2020. With Rheiner are retired Converse Police Chief Rick Jamison, and the victim’s son, John, and daughter-in-law, Briana Rayos.
Rayos appeared to physically ache Tuesday as she described telling a 4-year-old that the favorite person in her life was gone. Now 7, her daughter, Audrey, had a message for Coutros. As part of an agreement reached between prosecutor Alicia Lovett and defense attorney Amanda Hernandez, the state dropped an evading arrest charge and Coutros, 27, pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter. She will have to serve at least half of her term before being eligible for parole. She could have faced up to 20 years.
