That was down from February’s 4.55 million and far below the 5.69 million registered in March of 2022. But over the three months ended in January, the monthly average was 4.05 million. —a measure of builders’ views on the market—rose to 45 this month from March’s 44. That is still a low reading, but in December it was at 31.
