Of the 117,709 applicants who registered for entry, 10,510 were accepted.On Sunday, November 3, 2019, around 50,000 runners will traverse the five boroughs of the Big Apple in the largest marathon in the world. The New York City Marathon, which begins in Staten Island and finishes in spectator-packed Central Park, is as massive in size as it is in popularity.
Each year, a larger and larger pool of applicants throw their names into the notoriously selective drawing system for a shot at scoring a race bib—and 2019 was no exception.Earlier this winter, from January 14 through February 14, runners around the world registered for NYC through the New York Road Runners’s system and crossed their fingers for the drawing, which ended on Wednesday, February 27.
