The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox begin a weekend series on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
Marinaccio, 28, was 4-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 40 Yankees games when he was optioned on July 31. He had a 3.06 ERA in 33 appearances through June, then a 7.36 ERA with nine walks in 11 innings in 11 July outings prior to his demotion.
The Yankees created a roster spot during Thursday’s off day by optioning rookie starter Randy Vasquez to Triple-A. The Yankees also finally announced a starting pitcher for Friday night’s series opener against Boston. They opted to go with rookie Jhony Brito over using the righty behind an opener for the second time in six days.
