... [+]Wuhan, China, the origin of the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, is easing its lockdown on April 8, 2020, after 11 million residents have been quarantined for 76 days, but experts are cautious about the possibility of a second outbreak.
The quarantine in Wuhan began on January 23, 2020, more than two months after the first case of coronavirus was detected on November 17, 2019, according to theThe lockdowns in China included the 11 million residents of Wuhan, as well as millions of people in nearby cities; at one point, 56 million people in the country were locked down and forced to stay at home.
Health experts will be closely monitoring the city to see if any new cases emerge once the lockdown measures are lifted. A resurgence of cases “entirely depends on how much immunity is already in the population," Megan Murray, an epidemiology professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, told."We do think there will be at least a period of immunity following infection, and that will tell us a lot about how likely it is that COVID will reoccur.
