have been waiting a long time for Sunday. It has been almost a decade since we first met a scrappy, foul-mouthed, grieving copper and her evil, murderous nemesis – not to mention the seven-year gap between the second series and the third.
Theories are flying around offices and social media at breakneck speed. If you believed every one of them, you’d thinkYou would be anticipating a grand reveal from Neil , announcing he is Tommy’s long-lost father. You would be waiting for Ryan to alert the police to his dad’s whereabouts or maybe even kill him – but you would also be expecting him to run off to Spain with Tommy, never to be seen again.
The third and final series has been so expertly crafted over the past five weeks that any theory sounds plausible. But the true beauty of creator Sally Wainwright’s writing is that we have no idea how it will play out. Not even the cast are sure.. “There is one ending, but they’ve filmed it in different ways – different ways of how characters say things, the emotions behind them, the angles, the framing – because that stuff can affect a scene much more than most people would think.
It might seem a little cloak and dagger, but this is just one of the many ways television is changing to protect viewers from spoilers.
