The FIFA World Cup is set to open on Nov. 20 in Qatar for the first time. The World Cup begins with the group stage and the 32 teams looking to make it out.
FIFA Men’s World CupThis year’s soccer tournament will take place in Qatar, making it the first time it has even been held entirely in the Middle East and the second time it’s ever been held entirely in Asia. It’s also the first time the tournament will take place in November and December, moving from the late spring and early summer due to the extreme heat that plagues the region that time of the year.
It will also be the last time the tournament will have 32 nations in the tournament. In 2026, when the World Cup moves to North America, the tournament will have 48. Qatar will open the tournament against Ecuador in the first match on Nov. 20. The game will kickoff at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Read below for the entire group stage schedule.
