Police say shortly after 11 p.m., a woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 19A near Mostar and Rutherford Road.

A woman was hit by a car and seriously injured on a Nanaimo highway Tuesday night.

The driver made the call to 911 to report the incident and they remained on scene and cooperated with police, according to RCMP. According to Const. Gary O’Brien, all indications say the vehicle was travelling at the posted speed while it was travelling southbound in the slow lane.Police have cleared the driver of impairment and noted that the pedestrian was “wearing dark non-reflective clothing.”
