A woman who has completed a decade-long project to sample a scone at every possible National Trust location, of which there are 244, has unveiled the secret to Britain’s perfect scone.
“I thought it would take me maybe five years or something, I didn’t expect to do it quickly,” she said.“It’s been educational, it’s been my holidays, it’s been weekends.”
“And that’s one of the reasons why I kept Giant’s Causeway till the end, because me and him came here before we joined the National Trust, so I knew that he had seen it before.”Ms Merker’s blog was even turned into a book – The National Trust Book of Scones. “It takes a lot to ruin a fresh score… As long as the scone has been baked that day, you can hardly ever go wrong.”
