🍺 With the price of a pint about to rise again, pubs urge Jeremy Hunt to cut beer duty
, before the new Chancellor performed a U-turn and said the alcohol duty freeze would be extended by six months to this August.
A cut in beer duty cut is “a must”, she said, but while five per cent might “sound fantastic”, the effect would be minimal. “The Chancellor needs to heed our warnings about what we stand to lose. It’s not just these great businesses, it’s that social value, that community spirit. We need to make sure we can remain at the heart of high streets and communities and to provide jobs, especially for young people.”
