Mark Parker was a runner to his core. How big of an impact will his departure be in the sport?

John Donahoe has been named the successor by Parker and the Nike board. Donahoe comes from a background of CEO roles over the past decade from eBay to currently ServiceNow, a cloud computing company. Donahoe will take over as CEO and president starting January 13. He has also been a Nike board member since 2014.that he will assist Donahoe in transitioning into the role and that expects Donahoe will help the company with its digital growth.

“I’d just say that I was extreme. I ran over 10 years without missing a day, averaging close to 15 miles,” Parker toldin 2017. “I loved being able to run a long distance and get that feeling of strength and exhilaration from being in good shape. There was a meditative quality about it. Almost effortlessness. That’s a special feeling.”

“It seems like Mark is just moving into a new capacity,” Terry Schalow, executive director of the Running Industry Association told. “I think he wants some fresh ideas that will move the company forward and wants to take on a new challenge with someone he is confident in with John.”“I didn’t think Mark was going to go on forever, but I thought it would be more like 2021,” Matt Powell, a sports industry analyst from The NPD Group told.
