The last time a Democrat was inaugurated governor was 1991, when Ann Richards took the oath of office and became a national star. But in 1994 she lost to George W. Bush, and Democrats haven’t won a statewide election since. Rep. Victoria Neave Criado, D-Dallas, agreed that voter mobilization was the key to having a Democrat put their hand on a Bible on inauguration day. Neave Criado is also chairperson of the Mexican-American Legislative Caucus.
