Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis familiar with rebuilding projects

CHICAGO — An assertive decision by Johnny Davis set him on the path to becoming a consensus lottery prospect in the 2022 NBA draft.
On his way to becoming a consensus first-team All-American and the Big Ten Player of the Year, Davis also showed a knack for closing out games. In a 67-60 first-round win over Colgate in the NCAA Tournament, he scored Wisconsin’s last 14 points en route to finishing with 25. “I don’t think we’ll have another Johnny come through here,” Davis’ football coach said after his star player’s last game.
“I was able to prove myself,” Davis told ESPN after his seven-game stint with the World Cup team. “It just helped me realize that I shouldn’t be this timid player anymore. I should come in, not being cocky about it, but thinking I’m the best player on the floor all the time.”
