This upcoming upper Midwest winter storm will include jet stream energy from the California soaker. We expect low pressure to intensify over the central U.S., pulling moisture northward and wrapping it into cold air pulled south out of Canada.
Precipitation will spread into the Northeast. With warmer air surging north, most will see rain Friday into Friday night. The exceptions will be some areas of wet snow from the Adirondacks into northern New England.Leftover snow showers could linger into Saturday over much of the Great Lakes, upstate New York and northern New England. Rain might also linger in southern New England before the cold front sweeps out to sea.
Gusts over 30 mph are likely from Nebraska and Iowa to the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota and areas near Lake Superior.
