Beijing Olympics: N.J. speedskater Kimi Goetz completes 1st Olympic race
Goetz, who now lives and trains in Salt Lake City, is competing in her first Olympics for Team USA. She switched from short track speedskating to long track after suffering a concussion in the 2018 U.S. Trials and failing to qualify.
The 500-meter race turned out to be an historic one for American speedskating. Erin Jackson of Ocala, Fla., took the gold medal, becoming the first Black woman to win a medal in the sport. It is also the first individual medal for an American speedskater since the 2010 Vancouver Games.Goetz has enjoyed the support of her hometown throughout this Olympic experience.
