Williamson County is hosting a series of open houses this summer to unveil new data from a floodplain study started in 2021.
Flooding is a part of life in Central Texas and Williamson County is no exception. The area has dealt with multiple severe floods in the past several years and county officials want people to stay safe by knowing where this could happen.
As a Sun City resident for many years, Christina Schwerdtfeger has seen her share of flooding in Williamson County. That's what brought her to an open house hosted by the county where it unveiled new floodplain study data. "It really boils down to saving lives and protecting property, because if we can have these areas identified, people have an awareness of where they are," Zwernemann said."I almost didn't come today, and I was like - I can't believe it after I saw the map." Page said., along with an interactive map that lets people search for their properties within the floodplain, a useful tool as Williamson County's population continues to grow.
