Misleading information has influenced and changed the course of history for centuries, as we have seen since the ancient Greeks and Romans. Between the years of A.D. 300 and A.D. 470, the possession and movement of unverifiable relics of the crucifixion of Christ inspired devastating global military expeditions and influenced the rotating importance of Jerusalem, Constantinople, Venice, Paris and Rome as centers of civilization.
But how are these myths propagated in the first place, and why are they more believable than the facts? In the case of climate change, the answer largely lies in the ability of well-funded fossil fuel interests to bankroll the spread of disinformation. For decades, the fossil fuel industry has poured billions of advertising dollars into our political campaigns as well as our newspapers, magazines, radios and televisions.
. The report refutes 33 common and destructive climate myths, carefully addressing and documenting the sources of disinformation about solar, wind and EVs.
Another myth the report dissects is that solar panels and EVs aren’t actually efficient or beneficial once you factor in manufacturing, transportation of the product and waste. To address this, the writers present simple lifecycle analyses, which measure the extraction of the original raw materials, including the energy needed to drill or mine, transport, build, operate and eventually recycle.
