Wife files lawsuit in B.C. Supreme Court after she won decision in Chinese court to have mistress pay back the money

“Despite Mrs. Huang’s claim and Mr. Huang’s admissions, Ms. Zhu disputed that she was gifted the funds,” said the B.C. notice of claim. In the meantime, Ci Huang filed the Canadian lawsuit, asking the B.C. courts to enforce the Chinese court ruling, after she discovered her husband had transferred a “large portion of her funds” or the couple’s joint funds to Zhu without her knowledge or consent.

And that resulted in “depriving Mrs. Huang of her lawful right or title to the funds,” the claim says.About three weeks after the first transfer, Zhu bought a Burnaby house, then assessed at $2.4 million and now assessed at $3.1 million in government documents.Article contentAlong with the civil claim, Huang has filed documents against the Burnaby property, claiming a right to the proceeds of a future sale.

“Whether Ms. Zhu knowingly participated in Mr. Huang’s unlawful conversion of the funds is immaterial as she benefited from ,” the claim states. Zhu has yet to file a response to the B.C. claim and none of the allegations have been proven in court. The claim alleges Zhu is also liable for 4.3 per cent yearly interest on the amount, starting with day Huang filed the claim in January, and double that rate beginning 10 days after the Chinese court judgment.Article content

The notice of claim says the Huangs were married 27 years ago. Ci Huang is identified as retired and living in China.
