Alexei Navalny’s controversial positions on Crimea have led to deep and lingering suspicion in Ukraine that the enemy of its enemy is no true friend.

Sunday night’s televised awards ceremony also did not include an address from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,But the real issue in Ukraine is with Navalny himself.

But Ukrainians are all too aware that just a few years ago, Navalny carried the banner of Russian nationalism and, following Putin’s annexation of the southern Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014, he himself accepted the territorial seizure as an irreversible done deal.
