Older Americans — those around retirement age — are tending to continue to work, mostly because they want to, according to. Over the past 20 years, as labor force participation rates have dropped among younger people, they've risen for older adults. Un-retiring is becoming cool, including one-off gigs and part-time jobs, The Atlantic said.
Of course, economic conditions and financial security might play a heavy role in the decision. And while these older influencers probably won't generate enough income to retire on, it can help give them a financial boost, the Times says. And The Atlantic points out that"there might be a less pessimistic way to look at those who actively choose semi-retirement. After all, they represent a rarity in the labor market: the truly empowered worker."
The Times' article mentioned a 62-year-old woman who posts her outfit of the day on Tiktok, which led to 200,000 followers, a talent agent, and a modeling career.
