The creepiest day of the month has returned: Friday the 13th
In 2017, there were two ill-fated Fridays: the more mundane January 13 and the spookier October 13. This year, there are two more: April 13 and July 13. It seems that no matter how many such moments pass us by, the dreaded day continues to inspire unease and fears of misfortune.
“Generally speaking, I find that this occurs because the bad outcome springs to mind and is imagined more clearly following the jinx,” she explains. “People use the ease of imagining something as a cue to its likelihood.”Yale University's Brian Scholl has a little fun with your superstitious brain. “That adds a bit more fuel to this intuition, makes it feel a bit more true, even when you recognize that it's not true.”: perform rituals that ward off bad luck, like knocking on wood or throwing salt. Risen found that some people use them even when they don't actively believe, and when tested, both types of people reported benefits from such acts.
