“My hair is a very big deal,” said Baz Luhrmann, the “Elvis” director. “If you don’t feel good about your hair and you’re on a set, you feel uncomfortable in your skin.”
After Baz Luhrmann wraps the filming and promotion of one of his big, splashy films, such as the recent “Elvis” musical drama, the Australian film director likes to get away.
“I go on a self-revelation journey,” Luhrmann, 60, said. “I try not to have my name used, I do things myself and I go on a quest somewhere.” Luhrmann said these trips can inform future projects: He took the trans-Siberian Railway en route to Beijing after making “Moulin Rouge!” and listened to an audiobook of “The Great Gatsby,” which inspired him to adapt it for the screen a decade later.
