France’s far-right National Rally has elected a 27-year-old to replace Marine Le Pen as the leader of the party.
Ms Le Pen is stepping down as RN’s president to concentrate on directing its actions in the national assembly. In 2012, Mr Bardella became a member of RN, which was then called the National Front, at the age of 16. At age 19, he became the party’s youngest department official as department secretary ofMr Bardella has enjoyed a close relationship with Ms Le Pen over the years, and was part of her campaign team during the 2017 presidential election, during which she finished second behind Emmanuel Macron.
