Disease X is certain to break out in the future, according to WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus, who said a global treaty is needed to protect the world when the next pandemic hits
World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus has issued a new warning about the likelihood of Disease X breaking out, telling global world leaders it is 'a matter of when, not if' a new pathogen and pandemic will strike. Tedros, who goes by his first name, told attendees at the World Government Summit in Dubai earlier his week he gave a similar warning in 2018 that a pandemic was likely to hit, and he was proven right with the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.
We don’t have the power to do that, we don’t want it and we’re not trying to get it.' The WHO faced strong criticism from around the world over its slow response to investigating China for the COVID outbreak. A WHO team investigating the origins of the coronavirus pandemic also downplayed the possibility that the virus leaked from a lab near Wuhan, China.
