A cast of Baltimore Orioles pitchers with bloated ERAs managed to one-hit the White Sox batters.
The Orioles obviously saw something in the scouting report which suggested that they could snag free bases off of Michael Kopech, because they ran early and often on Friday night. The biggest terrors were Richie Martin and Jorge Mateo, who each had two stolen bases. It seemed that Kopech was content to focus on the batters, rather than the baserunners, because on one occasion Martin made it nearly halfway between second and third without Kopech noticing.
That put him in position to score on Martin’s single one batter later.Kopech didn’t leave any pitches over the heart of the plate to be crushed for home runs on Friday. In fact, he wasn’t hit very hard at all, and gave up only two singles and a double in six innings. Still, he was his own worst enemy as the Orioles jumped out to an early lead. Kopech was wild and only threw 53.8% of his pitches for strikes, which is well below his 61.8% average coming into Friday’s game.
