The Chicago White Sox have dismissed manager Pedro Grifol from his duties midway through his second season with the organization, ending a disastrous run.
The Chicago White Sox announced that manager Pedro Grifol has been dismissed amid a horrific season for the franchise. 'As we all recognize, our team’s performance this season has been disappointing on many levels,' White Sox senior vice president/general manager Chris Getz said in an official statement posted on social media. 'Despite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day.
The White Sox are 28-89 under Grifol this season, which is easily the worst record in MLB. As Getz mentioned last season as well, Grifol was unable to get the White Sox on track in his first season as manager with a 61-101 record. It was an extensive search to find Grifol as the franchise’s next manager after replacing Miguel Cairo, who took over for Hall of Famer Tony La Russa late in the 2022 campaign after he announced he was battling health issues and needed to step down.
