The White House declined to comment directly on Rep. Dean Phillips's likely entrance into the 2024 Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday.
For months, Phillips has called on other national Democrats to primary President Joe Biden based on his age and has gradually moved toward a run himself in recent weeks.Phillips stepped down from his post as co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee in early October, and Politico recently reported that the 54-year-old centrist has privately told other lawmakers that he could enter the race on Friday, the deadline to appear on the primary ballot in New Hampshire.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Phillips's likely entrance into the race, but she declined to say if Biden had any reaction to the reports. "I'm going to be careful from here. I'm not going to speak to electoral politics — upcoming electoral politics, 2024," she responded.
"One thing I would say outside of that is we appreciate the congressman's almost 100% support of this president as he's moved forward with some really important key legislative priorities for the American people," Jean-Pierre continued."I just don't have anything to share on that on the '24 news."You can watch Tuesday's briefing in full below.
