The White House pushed back Tuesday on the idea that President Joe Biden's economic policies are vastly unpopular with the public, despite a number of polls indicating just that.

As Biden ramps up his 2024 reelection effort, White House aides have sought to reframe the president's spending priorities as"Bidenomics."On Wednesday, the president will deliver what White House aides have referred to as a keystone economic address in Chicago, where he will defend his economic agenda to voters.

Principal deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton fielded a number of questions on the subject during Tuesday's press briefing and suggested that the policies themselves are popular, but families are"just now" beginning to see the economic benefit of the president's agenda. "The President's economic policies are incredibly popular when you ask people what they think about investing in our roads, bridges, and airports, when you ask people what they think about educating and empowering workers, when you ask people about how they feel about reshoring manufacturing jobs and investing in America. Those things are incredibly popular," Dalton stated.

Pressed on why some polling indicates that people generally believe former President Donald Trump"did a better job handling the economy" than Biden, Dalton again claimed that the president had shepherded the U.S. through a faster and stronger post-COVID-19 recovery than any other nation. "That's happening because of President Biden's leadership, because of the economic agenda that he's put forward. Two and a half years into this administration, we're just seeing the first impacts of all the historic legislation that he was able to achieve in the first couple of years," she continued.
