More than 300 municipal employees with the Town of Whitby are walking the picket line. They went on strike Saturday after their union, CUPE Local 53, failed

As a result, town facilities are shuttered along with in-person customer service centres. The only exception the Central and Rossland branch locations of the Whitby Public Library are open.

The town is working on opening up two temporary waste drop-off locations, one at Iroqouois Park Sports Centre in the parking lot at 500 Victoria Street West and the other in the parking lot of the McKinney Centre at 222 McKinney Drive.The town needs approval from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks to open the sites. They’re waiting to get the green light and once the sites are approved, the town will share the timing of when they will open.
