into the 90s in some inland locations this weekend. Saturday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, according to the National Weather Service. You can still count on sun and heat on Mother’s Day, but temperatures are likely to return to near seasonal normals by Monday.

The rising temperatures come as a ridge of high pressure builds over the region. While low-pressure areas are associated with cooling, high pressure brings warming. Miller said temperatures will jump up a bit more on Friday, with interior valley areas starting to break into the 80s in the afternoon. East Bay hills and the Santa Clara Valley are expected to see afternoon highs in the mid- to upper 70s, while locations along the immediate coastline and bayfront will likely stay in the mid-60s, with fog hugging the coast, the weather service said.

“On average, temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees above normal on Saturday and Sunday,” Miller said.
