The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric vehicle and the plug-in competition, from the Chevy Bolt to the Hyundai Kona Electric, aren't about to change that.
March 26, 2019 - Halifax, Canada - A 2019 red Tesla Model 3 electric car parked on a city street in downtown Halifax.Seems like every time a new electric vehicle is launched there’s a corresponding headline calling it a Tesla killer. But all of these supposed Tesla killers are pricey luxury electrics, such as the Jaguar i-Pace, Audi e-tron and Porsche Taycan. None of these, or any other EV, including Tesla’s own Model S and Model Y, compare in popularity to the Tesla Model 3.
After much hype, several delays, and a limited roll-out in late 2017, The Model 3 compact sedan has had a banner year so far in 2019 due to shoppers hustling to cash in on the expiring $7,500 federal EV tax credit. To offset that credit getting cut in half, and in half again before being phased out completely by 2020, Tesla cut the base price twice this year to start at $38,990 for the rear-drive model.
