The Texas House voted to impeach Paxton based on allegations he made false statements, took bribes and abused his office. The Texas Senate set the trial to be held no later than Aug. 28.EXPLAINED:Buzbee shared on Instagram Friday he had been retained to represent Paxton, but the post later was removed. Buzbee then announced Tuesday via Instagram there would be a news conference held Wednesday,"regarding the fatally flawed impeachment.
The impeachment articles also cover an eight-year-old indictment on felony securities fraud charges in connection with misleading investors and failing to register as an investment adviser.The prosecutors for the impeachment trial are Dick DeGuerin and Rusty Hardin. Buzbee previously has gone up in court against Hardin, when Buzbee represented the women who sued Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson for alleged sexual misconduct.
