From Toronto Comicon 2023 to the Toronto Short Film Festival, here's a sampling of what's happening in the city this weekend.

this Friday to Sunday, is “a celebration of all things pop culture,” said Andrew Moyes, vice-president of Fan Expo Canada. “Whether you love science fiction, gaming, anime, horror, or comics, it’s an incredible melting pot of pop culture where all of these different fandoms are celebrated in different ways.”

Comic creators making an appearance include Leonard Kirk , Marcus To , Dan Parent . On top of photo ops and autographs, guests can also view panels, participate in fabrication or acting workshops, and cosplay competitions.People spend weeks, months and a lot of money on creating costumes to show their fandom at the event,” Moyes said, adding that there is no registration required, since people “just want to come celebrate the character.

However, for many, Comicon is also about shopping. “We have hundreds of retailers and artists,” Moyes said. “It’s a great little artist marketplace where everything is handmade. So lots of unique for people to take back to the office or school with those bragging rights.”On Sunday, a free community parade celebrating Irish culture and history will march Bloor, Yonge and Queen streets. “The parade has grown to include a number of diverse communities,” its website says.
