'A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another'

Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, commemorates how Jesus celebrated his final Passover with his Apostles. During the Last Supper, Jesus washed the feet of his 12 disciples as a selfless act of modesty and humbleness.

On April 9, the Christian holiday observes how Jesus spent his final hours with an act of humility. Before the Passover meal, Jesus cleansed and dried the feet of the Apostles. After the Washing of the Feet, Jesus then ordered his Apostles to do the same for each other, according toJesus was under no obligation to clean his Apostles' feet. A servant was supposed to cleanse the feet when they entered the room. Leading by example, Jesus demonstrated how to serve others in the name of the Lord.

In John 13:34, Jesus is quoted as saying,"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another," perDuring Holy Communion, also known as the Eucharist, Jesus broke the bread and shared among his Apostles, saying,"This is my body." Jesus then poured the wine and said"This is my blood." He then asked them,"Do this in remembrance of me," perElizabeth Pennington, a lay Eucharistic minister, Rev.

After the Passover meal, Jesus and the Apostles went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Just as he predicted, Jesus was betrayed by one of his own: Judas. On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus was arrested and held for trial. To this day, the foot washing ceremony is conducted at churches for members of the congregation. Participants are asked to remove their shoes and socks before the ceremony. Playing the role of Christ, the priest will wash each individual's feet and dry with a towel.
