The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning the public about an increase in a severe form of Shigella, an antibiotic-resistant bacteria
Although Shigella infections are common, researchers are worried about the drug-resistant strain of XDR.
What are the symptoms of Shigella infections?Diarrhea that is bloody or lasts more than three daysSymptoms usually take place one to two days after infection and last seven days.The bacteria also can be transmitted through person-to-person contact, including sexual contact, and contaminated food and water.Wash hands with soap and water before handling food. Also, wash them after coming into contact with feces or changing a diaper.
