A new listing on Marvel's Japan site seems to reveal that What If...? season 2 and Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
A brand new posting from a Marvel website suggests that Marvel's What If...? and Secret Invasion will release in 2022. The MCU closed out 2021 on a high note with Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it seems like it has no plans of slowing down with a string of projects already lined up for the new year. Marvel has around 10 projects potentially slated for release in 2022, making it another record year for the studio.
On the heels of the Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios laid out its Phase 4 plans during San Diego Comic-Con 2019, announcing most of its big-screen projects. Subsequently, Kevin Feige shared more about their Disney+ plans at D-23. Since then, the franchise had to reshuffle its slate several times due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a longer hiatus than planned, though, productions for their upcoming endeavors have eventually picked up.
It's easier to come out with a brand new season of Marvel's What If...? as it doesn't demand actors actually filming. Given its animated format, the stars could record their lines separately while it's eventually put together during post-production. In addition to that, the show's first season ended on a cliffhanger, which hints that the writers and producers were already thinking about a follow-up before it even premiered.
Meanwhile, Secret Invasion started production in late 2021, and Marvel Studios has kept it relatively low-key, with very little to no update about the project. It's unknown if filming has already wrapped up, but depending on the pace of work, chances are that it's at the tail end of principal photography, giving it plenty of time to be ready before its purported 2022 release date.
