Officers have nabbed a total of 58 uninsured drivers so far this month, after 65 were stopped in July.
The West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit was kept busy last week, catching nine drivers with no insurance and dealing with two allegedly impaired drivers.
Major incidents during the week included a Aug. 16 vehicle rollover on Finlayson Arm Road involving a driver suspected to be impaired by alcohol. He attempted to leave the scene but was apprehended and gave a breath sample that led to a three-day driving suspension and a three-day vehicle impoundment. Along with that, his vehicle found to have structural defects and was deemed not to be roadworthy.On Aug. 17, police receiving at least 11 calls from people reporting a pickup truck being driven erratically and going into oncoming traffic on the Island Highway through View Royal and Colwood.
The man, who was sent to hospital for treatment, could face charges that include impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.
