A significant amount of money was fundraised recently on the west coast for a teenager going through cancer treatments.
Humber-Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce highlighted the efforts, which took place in the areas of Lark Harbour and York Harbour, in the House of Assembly earlier this week. He explains that Ryder Walters, a grade 10 student at St. James All Grade, is going through treatments in St. John’s. A local band named Route 450 recently approached the school about doing a benefit concert, and Joyce explains that sparked a big community effort that also included things such as a bake sale, 50/50 tickets, and individual fundraisers.
He says the fundraiser was an “overwhelming success” with the final total coming in at just under $24,000. He says Ryder was able to come home and partake in the festivities.
