Crews working to replace concrete panels on Interstate 5 in EverettEVERETT, Wash. — The last weekend-long reduction on northbound Interstate 5 for this year ended on Sunday afternoon, as crews are set to potentially finish Revive I-5 work in the area ahead of schedule.
The Washington State Department of Transportation says their contractor, Acme Concrete Paving, was able to replace about 100 broken concrete panels during two weekends of work.“We’re really pleased that Acme could finish this much work in just two weekends,” said project engineer Shawn Wendt. “We have several sections where we needed to replace multiple panels, so it was much more cost-effective to do that during a weekend.
WSDOT says crews still need to replace a small number of panels, but this work can be done during several overnight shifts over the next few weeks. Contractor crews will also be grinding down the freeway in some spots to help create a smoother surface and reduce puddling when it rains. More scheduled weekend-long lane reductions will be taking place between 41st Street and U.S. 2 next summer.
