"However," Wayne wrote,"in a number of other cases, employees received substantially more than they were entitled to receive in a salary. Our records indicate you were one of the employees who may have received this salary advance."
On Saturday, Dec. 17, just a day later, Wayne sent out an apology letter for causing"stress and confusion," clarifying that EmPowerSF — the broken payroll system in question — was responsible for producing the list of employees who have potentially been overpaid, and that SFUSD will be conducting an"audit" to see whether EmPowerSF's list of employees is even accurate.
