The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory across much of western Utah, extending into the Salt Lake and Tooele Valleys, from noon until midnight on Tuesday. South winds of 25-35 mph and gusts of more than 55 mph are possible. The winds could damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be “difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” and blowing dust could reduce visibility in some areas.
And rain, snow and much colder temperatures will follow on Wednesday as a cold front moves through the state. According to the National Weather Service, the mountains will get 6-12 inches of snow, with more possible in some locations. Southwest valleys could get a trace to 6 inches. Rain is expected to begin after 1 a.m. on Wednesday, and change to a mix of rain and snow after 10 a.m. There’s an 80% chance of rain and snow during the day, and a 90% chance of rain/snow turning to all snow Wednesday night. Accumulations of 1-2 inches are possible.
