A good deal on a rental apartment, of course, can mean very different things for different people.
This week, the first of the New Year, we dug up a few very nice lofts — like this 25-foot-wide one in the East Village and a full-floor live/work space in Nolita with original 12-foot tin ceilings. The best original details, like floor inlays and wainscotting, were kept .$2,000: The studio is the cheapest apartment in Carroll Gardens right now. It’s also larger than usual and has a bright windowed kitchen with checkered floors.
$2,200: You don’t often see a studio as rich in charming details as this one, which has a big decorative wood-and-tile fireplace and a wrought-iron spiral staircase. And there’s a dishwasher.$2,400: There’ll be competition for this one — really bright for the price, with two bedrooms and room for a dining table, three blocks from the Lorimer Street L train.
