OSU AD Gene Smith remains close with his protege and UCLA counterpart Martin Jarmond, but both say they didn't discuss the Bruins move to the Big Ten.
Asked how much of their communication had been about the move, Smith said, “Nothing.”
“He really did an unbelievable job in keeping things confidential,” Smith said, “and so I never really had a real good inkling till we had our call Wednesday . “Going into last week, we didn't know what schools , but now we know and that's a major move of the needle,” Smith said.“Resources are important and were an important part of the decision,” Jarmond said. “You need to resource your programs to where your student-athletes can compete at a high level. If you want to win and compete at a high level, which we want to do and intend to do, it requires resources to help you do that.
