Tottenham assistant Cristian Stellini appeared to confirm the club’s interest in Leicester star James Maddison.with Maddison since his Coventry days and the England midfielder’s contract with the Foxes expires in 17 months.Leicester host TottenhamHowever, the Italian’s choice of words seemed to hint at a deeper affection for a player who“We like Maddison as a player. He is an important player in this league,” Stellini admitted.
“At the moment he’s playing for Leicester, a team we play against. We take care of him like an opponent.” Speaking in October, Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle told talkSPORT that Maddison is exactly what Spurs need. Despite Leicester’s struggles this season and Maddison’s own personal battle with injuries, the 26-year-old has eight goals and four assists in 15 top-flight games.
“I think they need some creativity – because at the moment it’s down to [Harry] Kane dropping in and creating,” Hoddle said.
