Even though units are available, an owner of an affordable housing company says current programs don’t work well.
Thirty-nine of the units will be dedicated for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
“We have so many important projects to choose from, unfortunately her project just didn’t get picked,” she said. Denouden said she’s had an easier time working with the Alberta government building affordable housing there.“Often what we’re seeing in how the Ministry of Social Services is functioning, we see a very reactive rather than preventative approach,” Conway said.
