In the post, Wayans said that the Wayans brothers would be returning to the franchise, and are “looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” said the brothers in a statement. “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.
The Wayans brothers have been integral to the Scary Movie franchise since its inception. The original 2000 movie was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, and written by Shawn and Marlon, alongside Buddy Johnson, Phil Beauman, Jason Friedberg, and Aaron Seltzer. Keenen would also direct the film’s sequel in 2001, with Shawn and Marlon starring in that as well as the first.
As of now, there’s no word on whether or not the movie will see any cast members from the original set of movies reprising their roles.
