A Good Friday mass will follow at the church at 3 p.m., while Calgary Roman Catholic Bishop William McGrattan will oversee a service at St. Mary’s Cathedral at the same time. “Since the pandemic, didn’t organize the event downtown and they knew we had this tradition so the expectation for us is different,” he said, adding it could become an annual practice.In recent years, the parish’s growth has been fed mostly by immigration from predominantly Portuguese-speaking Brazil, said DeSouza, who himself came to Canada from South America’s largest country in 2017.
