The story isn’t new, but the tale of Nick Saban’s struggles as a shy eighth-grade music student continues to draw attention whenever the Alabama coach shares it.
A video tweeted Wednesday showed Saban sharing the consequences he faced and the life lessons he learned from getting a D in music class. “I got a D in music because I would not get up in front of the class and sing because I was shy,” Saban explained. “So when that report card came home my dad immediately told me, ‘Go get your basketball uniform, we’re taking you to the coach. We’re turning in your uniform.’ So we turned in the basketball uniform. I had to quit the eighth-grade basketball team until I got my grades straight.”“Then he took me to the coal mines, and we went 527 feet deep.
