In 1914, lighthouse keeper Fred Harrington observed 'a sea of unusual height.'

Harrington had maintained the cliff-top lighthouse, which stands 175 feet above the sea and 300 miles north of San Francisco, since 1888. In the days leading up to 1915, a massive storm had been battering the region, with plenty of large swells rolling in. But this one was different.In 1914, Fred Harrington looked out this window and saw a 200-foot wave coming in his direction.The red brick and stucco lighthouse is 25 feet tall, with its light shining from 196 feet above sea level.
