Warriors will hold out Andre Iguodala through All-Star break

LOS ANGELES — The Warriors will play their final two games before the All-Star break without Andre Iguodala, the same as they have for all but six minutes of their previous 12.

With Iguodala nursing a tight lower back, coach Steve Kerr relented that it wouldn’t be until next Thursday, at the earliest, that Golden State gets its veteran leader back on the floor. It would be more wise, he said, to ensure Iguodala, 38, returns at full strength than to rush him back. He traveled with the team to Los Angeles and participated in shootaround but will not suit up Monday night against the Clippers.

“He’s doing well,” Kerr said. “We’ll keep him out through the break, just to be very cautious. He’s doing a lot better.” Golden State’s game Monday night was Iguodala’s 13th straight absence, excluding the first half of one game at Oklahoma City, when Iguodala briefly returned from from a sore hip to injure his back, which has kept him out since. The Warriors have played more games without him in the lineup than with him .

The night Iguodala returned against the Thunder — knocking down an open 3-pointer, facilitating two more baskets, grabbing two rebounds and forcing a steal in six minutes — Kerr said he was “really hopeful this was going to be the start of a good stretch for him.”
